Amartha is a technology company that has a mission of realizing shared prosperity through the development of digital financial infrastructure for the grassroots economy. Established in 2010, Amartha exists as a microfinance to connect rural micro-enterprises run by strong women with access to affordable capital.

Now Amartha is growing as a technology company that is building a microfinance ecosystem to connect more to the rapidly growing digital economy through capital, investment, and payment services. Amartha advances the bottom pyramid economy by increasing the competitiveness of micro and small entrepreneurs. In doing so, we empower more female MSMEs, create jobs and build more inclusive economic growth.

Founder's Message

August 2023

Amartha was established in 2010 with a simple mission: to assist the rural community of Ciseeng, Bogor, in obtaining affordable funding, aiming to improve their and their families quality of life.

As time passed, Amartha continued to evolve. In 2015, we identified an opportunity for technology to simplify and bridge the community's access to the grassroots economy, offering better risk management and attractive returns. In Indonesia, we pioneered the modernization of microfinance by introducing access to a microfinance marketplace. Through this platform, individuals and institutions can directly contribute to funding small businesses and SMEs in rural areas.

I have seen how relatively small working capital can create significant transformation for women micro-entrepreneurs in rural areas. Our borrowers, who began their businesses by selling cassava chips, betta fish, and wet cakes, now offer a wider range of products and have flourishing businesses. There are still thousands of similar success stories arriving from various regions every day. Through Amartha, we are striving to enhance the future of millions of families in Indonesia.

From day one, Amartha was constructed as a game-changer. We have demonstrated that the ultra-micro segment can be sustainable and contribute positively to rural communities. This is what motivates us to continue innovating, building technology that drives the evolution of microfinance in Indonesia, underpinned by sincerity, humility, and integrity.

In an era filled with challenges and unequal opportunities, Amartha is striving to help SMEs grow, create jobs, increase family income, and transform families' lives to become more prosperous.

We are currently growing as a microfinance platform, constructing digital financial infrastructures for the grassroots economy. In every effort we make, from our deepest hearts, our goal remains the same: to create stronger communities, a more resilient nation, and to realize equitable prosperity for all.
